Friday, July 30, 2004 Pakistan's press enraged by hostage killings - BBC "The deaths of Pakistani hostages Azad Hussein Khan and Sajjad Naeem at the hands of a group calling itself the Islamic Army in Iraq have outraged Pakistani papers. Although united in their denunciation of the killings, they are divided over who to blame. Some papers focus their fury on the Pakistani government for what they see as official "laxity" and an "ambiguous attitude". Others say the hostage-takers acted contrary to Islamic principles, and one daily accuses the US of pitting Muslims against one another. Many papers are in agreement that Pakistan should not send its forces to Iraq and the government should do its best to evacuate citizens still in that country." |
